Stage 19: O CEBREIRO to TRIACASTELA (15.64 miles; 83.18 miles this week; Total - 377.95 miles)

Today was a shorter and less strenuous hike. Though it had its ups and downs; they were mostly down!

After a good breakfast, we were off!

Some of the architectural elements in Galicia have their origins in Celtic culture. Notice the heavily thatched roofs.

There was something oddly mysterious being high above the fog and clouds as they settled into the valleys below.

Of course, another little Romanesque church along the way.

There are a lot of flowers throughout our travels but they seem to becoming more profuse and colorful here.

This statue stands at the top of the Alto do San Roque is this statue of a pilgrim who is braving the elements on his quest to reach Santiago de Compostela.

Yet another little Romanesque church: La Iglesia de San Xoán in the village of Hospital. This one was particularly interesting. It had a rock staircase on the outside of the church that lead to the bell tower. Seth jumped up on the wall and went into the tower. Later we had a very steep climb to the Alto do Poio. It was an insane climb. From the Alto do Poio the path went over rolling hills.

This hermita is the Chapel of San Pedro de Biduedo. It is tiny. Jannette could barely stand up in the archway. Below is the inside.

So we are walking along when we look up and see this cow nearly dangling off the edge straining to eat some grass along the edge of the path. Here is a picof Seth standing under the cow that gives you a better perspective of where it was in relation to us.

Triacastela in the distance.

Romanesque church of Santiago de Triacastela.

We are staying at a farmhouse about 3 kilometers outside of Triacastela. It is a beautiful place called
Casa Pacios.

And from one of the windows two country maidens.

And then a visit from Santiago peregrino after dinner.

It has been a good day. Tomorrow we rest.
Happy Sabbath to all.
