Stage 22: PORTOMARIN to PALAS DE REI (15.62 miles)

The beginning of our hike from PortomarĂn to Palas de Rei surprised us with a burst of color when we came upon a wall of Foxglove lining the trail

A very nice contrast to the hoards that were beginning to choke the trail. Below you can see our students with a whole band of pilgrims ahead of them.

Again, there were moments that if I waited long enough the trail would clear and give me a nice view of the scenery.

But as you can see, we were not alone. The pilgrims stretched for at least a kilometer with only brief breaks in between.

All along the way you will see yellow arrows that help to mark the path to Santiago. Here someone added "casi" (almost) to encourage pilgrims more.

Going up a long uphill with Jannette trying to find out where to turn off so that we could see pre-Roman ruins/archeological site; and we found it!

(remains of Castro; occupied during 4th century BCE up to the Roman occupation)

Commercial eucalyptus tree farm

Again, the dreaded rocky path!

Lovely Romanesque Church of Santiago de Lestedo
