Stage 8: SANTO DOMINGO DE LA CALZADA to BELORADO (13.88 miles)

Sounds. Sadly, a lot of our trek today was near the highway. However, in those rare moments that we were further away from the noise of trucks you could hear the sound of birds and the croaking of frogs. It was an odd mix of sounds. Today started out with cool weather that quickly turned hot, Gratefully clouds began to gather during the last five miles and we had a slight breeze that gave us some relief.

Here are our pictures from the time we left Santo Domingo de la Calzada to Belorado.

A small chapel (hermitage) at the bridge leaving the Santo Domingo de la Calzada

Always on the hunt for "sellos" for our pilgrim credentials one of our students, Pato, knocked on the door of one of the albergues (hostels) to see if the owner had a seal. A gentleman came to the door and said that he did but that someone would have to play the piano to get it. Fortunately, Seth was with us. We went in and Seth played, amazing the gentleman. Pato then picked up the guitar and strummed a little. The owner was delightful and seemed to enjoy having us there! We sat and laughed and chatted for about 15 minutes; good memory

The Iglesia de San Juan el Bautista in Grañón. We love to explore churches when we find them open. Jannette, Seth and I took a moment to sing a hymn. The acoustics were great! Below is the altar and a rose window representing a pilgrim.

The streets of the small cities are charming. This one in Grañón is typical.

More landscape pics from Grañón and Belorado.

So, we arrive in Belorado

All along the main street are these plaques with names of pilgrims and messages.
